Plan B and Julie don’t work as well if you weight 165 or more. ella is another emergency contraception pill that may work better for you, but it requires a prescription from a doctor. If you weigh 195 pounds or more, ella won’t be as effective. If you’ve had gastric bypass surgery, oral birth control methods and emergency contraception will be ineffective due to the malabsorption mechanism present after surgery.
Whatever your weight, getting certain IUDs as emergency contraception works within 120 hours (5 days) after having unprotected sex. This is the most effective type of emergency contraception. An IUD has to be put in by a doctor, nurse, or other health care provider.
Plan B / Julie are over the counter medication that can be bought without an ID and are legal in all 50 states. Emergency contracepetives are not abortion pills. Read the back of the box for further information.
We are not medical providers (either RFFNH or any host site). If you have concerns about a medicine you are taking potentially interacting with the morning-after pill, please consult with a pharmacist or medical provider.
